National Older Person’s Day on 1 October 2010

Community First New Forest and Waterside Innovations Team are hosting a free event to celebrate National Older Person’s Day.

The event will take place at Hythe Community Centre, Brinton Lane, Hythe on Friday 1 October 2010 from 10am-2pm.

The Innovations project provides older people and their families with:

• support, advice and guidance on a range of issues such as keeping warm, safe, fit and eating well

• specialist help if they are experiencing difficulties around the home, or with managing everyday activities, or if they are concerned about their health and wellbeing

• assistance with linking into appropriate health and community services

Jacqui Missen, Innovations Development Worker at Community First New Forest, is organising the event and has invited many local groups and organizations to take part.

There will be a chance to try your hand at computer technology, armchair exercise with the ‘better balance’ program and information from the ‘cook and eat’ project.

Telecare will be attending with a range of their products promoting independent living and reassurance at a press of a button and they will explain the funding available.

All Mobility will be showing some of their aids from a simple grabber to more technical mobility solutions.

Demonstrations of ‘Nordic walking’ and healthy walks information will be available and Age Concern New Forest East will be offering samples of and recipes using unusual fruit and vegetables.

And for a chance to relive the ‘old days’ there will be a display of photographs of the area from years past and toys and nostalgic games for everyone to try.

This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate your maturing years!
