National Volunteer Week is being marked this year with a special event in Ringwood on 9 June 2010.
The New Forest Volunteer Centre, run by Community First New Forest, will be showcasing Ringwood based charities, voluntary and community groups.
The event is part of a national celebration of volunteers and volunteering which takes place in June each year.
Representatives from the New Forest Volunteer Centre will be on hand outside the Meeting House in Ringwood on 9 June from 10am to 2pm to give out information and answer questions on volunteering.
Some of the organisations involved in the initiative who are looking for volunteers include Greyfriars, Ringwood and Fordingbridge Club for the Blind, The British Liver Trust, Ringwood Good Neighbours and Tools for Self-Reliance.
Hazel Dyson, Volunteer Centre Coordinator from Community First New Forest, explains,
“The occasion is an opportunity to promote and celebrate volunteering and to encourage new recruits to get involved with helping organizations.” Hazel added, “The themes of the week nationally are ‘Recognise, Reward and Recruit’, highlighting the contribution of the 20+ million people who give their time freely, while encouraging others to get involved in volunteering.”
