The work of volunteers across the New Forest has been recognised at a special celebration event.

Community First New Forest, who run the New Forest Volunteer Centre, put on the awards ceremony for charities and community groups across the Forest.

Twenty five organisations attended Hoburne Bashley, near New Milton, where the 125 volunteers were publicly recognised for their work.

Cllr Pat Wyeth, Chairman of New Forest District Council and President of Community First New Forest, presented certificates to the volunteers individually. [Roger Leppard, Community Fundraiser from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance gave a presentation on his charity’s work.]

A survey carried out by Community First New Forest amongst guests showed that nearly 30% had never been recognised for their volunteering before the event.

When asked what people found most rewarding about volunteering, a range of responses was given including, “Seeing others achieve something”, “Helping others”, “Knowing that someone’s life has been made better” and from the New Forest District Sailability Group, “Seeing the pleasure on the faces of the disabled sailors after an experience of freedom on the water”.

Speaking at the event, Hazel Dyson, Co-ordinator of the New Forest Volunteer Centre said, “These people are society’s unsung heroes so it is very satisfying to be able to publicity recognise them and applaud their achievements in this way.”

Hazel also thanked Hoburne Bashley and New Forest District Council for their support of the event.

Thank you to all our funders for their support, it is appreciated and is vital to our work and the difference we make together towards improving the quality of life of people in the New Forest. Please follow the link to see a list of our funders:
