Have bus, can travel
Local charity Community First New Forest is reminding voluntary and community groups that it has a small fleet of minibuses available to hire locally. The minibuses, which are all fully equipped and wheelchair accessible, and range from 10 to 14 seats, can be hired by any ‘not for profit’ organisation based within the New Forest.
Graham Hartless, Transport Manager at Community First, is reminding groups, “If you need to arrange transport for that special Christmas lunch, social event or to a meeting we may be able to help you. Our vehicles are conveniently sited at four locations across the Forest so there should be one near you. If you can provide your own MiDAS trained driver so much the better, if not, we may be able to supply you with a volunteer. As we are a ‘not for profit’ organisation ourselves our hire rates are very affordable.” Graham added, “We can also provide MiDAS training for your drivers if required”.
In Community First New Forest’s experience many organisations find it very difficult to organise transport for their members to attend social events, and Graham believes, “It is so important for those who are socially or geographically isolated to have affordable access to transport.” For this reason he was delighted earlier this year to have been able to help St Dunstans (the association for blind ex military people) with a local reunion. Feedback from the trip demonstrated how vital the service is, “We recently held our annual reunion in the New Forest, and without the transport supplied by Community First New Forest, 18 of our members would not have been able to attend. This reunion was the highlight of our year, many thanks Community First New Forest”.
