Small Repair Service

New Forest Small Repair Service supports people by:

    * Carrying out minor repair or adaptation works in homes at low cost.

    * Being a reliable, professional, trustworthy and supportive service.

    * Helping people have peace of mind and continued safety and independence in their own homes.

This service is for people over 60, people with a disability or anyone in receipt of an income related benefit, eg Income Support, Pension Credit, Council Tax Benefit.

If you are eligible for the service we will make an appointment for our Technician to visit you.

It is often difficult and expensive to call someone out to take care of smaller jobs.

The service is aimed at carrying out a range of minor works.

Examples include:

  • General:
    • putting up curtain poles, blinds, pictures, mirrors, cabinets, shelving.  Fixing hinges on cupboard doors, broken drawers, repairing/installing battery powered doorbells, clearing guttering (bungalows only), and changing light bulbs.

  • Security/safety:
    • installing door chains, testing smoke alarms, putting up grab rails and banister rails, extending telephone lines to other rooms, repairing, replacing or installing new door locks

  • Plumbing:
    • fixing/replacing leaking taps, fixing toilets, unblocking sinks, plumbing in washing machines (where pipe-work already exists).

Unfortunately we are unable to do gardening, cleaning, decorating work, deal with any gas or electrical installation.

Cost of Service

  • Please note there is NO call-out charge.  The hourly labour charge is:
    • * £7 – if on Income Support /Pension Credit
    • * £10 – if not on Income Support

This does not include material costs.

As a minor repair service all works are limited to a maximum of 2 hours per visit.

This helps us to support more people with minor repair or adaptation works.
