A Moped Loan Scheme for young people aged between 16 and 25 living in the districts of:

  • East Hampshire
  • New Forest
  • Test Valley
  • Winchester

What is Wheels to Work?

The Wheels to Work Moped Loan Scheme is designed for people aged between 16 and 25 who don’t have access to public or private transport to get them to a job, vocational training or to attend interviews.  A moped can be loaned for 3 to 12 months depending on your circumstances.

Since the scheme began it has offered transport solutions to over 200 people entering employment or enrolling on training courses, something that would not have been possible without Wheels to Work.

Wheels to Work provides an opportunity to improve an individual's career prospects by offering an interim transport solution until people are financially and physically able to transport themselves to and from training or work.

Who can use Wheels to Work?

If you are a young person living in an area where there are few (or no) suitable public bus or rail services, a moped can enable you to get to work, work-based training or interviews anywhere within a reasonable travelling distance.  If you live in an area with public transport, but work unsociable hours, which makes it difficult for you to get there then a moped could be the answer to your problems.

Individuals who have taken part in Wheels to Work have commented on how supportive the scheme has been, how it has opened doors that would have previously been closed and how fulfilled they are in employment or having taken part in training that has enhanced their career prospects.  A recent client of Wheels to Work heartily recommends the scheme to others; “I was very impressed by the support I received from the trainers, garage and the Wheels to Work office at Community First New Forest.  I’m sure that this career opportunity would not have happened without the help of the Wheels to Work scheme”.

Wheels to Work

What do I get?

A 50cc moped, fully taxed and insured, with full breakdown and service cover.  You are also provided with a helmet, gloves and a high visibility vest.

Ideally you will have passed Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) but if not

we will arrange it for you and even pay for it.

How much does it cost?

You don’t have the worries of buying, taxing or insuring the moped.

You won’t have to do a great deal more than pay for fuel, and contribute a small weekly hire charge of £12 to cover some of the on-going costs.

You will also need to pay a refundable deposit of £50.

What am I responsible for?

You must have at least a provisional licence for motorcycles, which you are responsible for obtaining.   You will need to take responsibility for the care and day to day running of the moped.
