Young Carers Project

Hundreds of children in the New Forest are Young Carers.  They perhaps do the housework or the shopping as Mum is ill.  Maybe they look after younger brothers and sisters who have a disability.  Or they could be dealing with medications and doctors as Dad can’t do it himself.
Many of them, and their families, don’t realise that makes them a Young Carer though.  This means they might be missing out on extra help that could make a big difference to their lives.

That’s where we come in.  We can help families access services that will make their lives easier as well as offering 1-2-1 support, group work and activities.  You can see our leaflet here.  (PDF)

We accept referrals for any young person aged 8 to 18, from anyone involved with the family.  Click here to download our referral form.

We can also provide training and support to schools and other organisations who work with young people.  If you would be interested in finding out more about this side of our work, please get in touch.

To help schools and other agencies identify Young Carers and what they can do to support them, Community First New Forest has produced a checklist of signs to look out for and advice on what steps to take.  Click here to download a copy.

We’d also love to hear from you if you’d be interested in either volunteering or supporting us in some way.
