Volunteers in the New Forest have been directly recruited as a result of an event in New Milton.
The New Forest Volunteer Centre, part of Community First New Forest, held its second successful Volunteering Roadshow last month [March 2010] in the New Milton Community Centre.
Nearly 20 voluntary and community organisations were represented showing information about their services to the public. Over 50 people attended the event to find out more about the opportunities available to help within their local community.
Many of the organisations actually recruited more volunteers on the day. Jo from Tools for Self Reliance said “It’s a great opportunity for organisations to show people what work they do. Not only have we recruited more volunteers but networking with other groups is invaluable”.
Reflecting the mood of the roadshow, a member of the public commented, “I have really enjoyed the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I had no idea there was so many different things to do!”
The co-ordinator of the event Hazel Dyson, from Community First New Forest, said “Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, use your skills and access training. It can provide a flexible opportunity to make a difference to others as well as being an extremely rewarding, challenging and fun experience.”
Community First New Forest is keen to hear from anyone interested in volunteering. Says Hazel, “If you have missed this event but feel volunteering has something to offer you then please contact me at the New Forest Volunteer Centre on 01425 482773 or email vol.bureau@cfnf.org.uk
