BRAvo for Community First New Forest and Friends |
Following an appeal from the Air Ambulance, staff from Community First New Forest have been donating their old bras.
The charity was also helped by friends from other local organisations including New Forest District Council and Lymington Adult Services and Occupational Therapists.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance work with a recycling company called 'Bag it up', who recycle donated clothes, which are processed and then sent to other countries for resale.
Payment is received in relation to the weight of clothing donated.
Bras are particularly in demand as they are worth more money per tonne than most other textiles.
Most of the bras are shipped to Africa for resale at affordable prices.
The underwear gives African women prestige and helps to raise their self-esteem.
Hazel Dyson, Volunteer Centre Co-ordinator at Community First New Forest has been collecting the bras over the past few weeks.
Recently she was able to present Roger Leppard, Community Fundraiser at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Ambulance with a full bag of bras.
The money raised from the appeal will be used to help maintain the air ambulance service across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. |
