New Forest Nightstop is part of the national registered charity, Depaul Nightstop UK, and provides emergency overnight accommodation for homeless 16 - 24 year olds in the homes of trained and approved host households around the New Forest.
A young person visits a local agency and if the young person is suitable, the agency will make a referral to Nightstop. Young people cannot self-refer to Nightstop.
Many local agencies are participating in the scheme:
- It's Your Choice - youth advice service
- Social Services
- Benefits Agency
- Citizens' Advice
- Job Centres
- Police
- Council Housing Needs Team
- Youth Service/Youth Drop-In
- Connexions
- Church organisations
- Housing Projects
- Colleges
- Schools and
- Drugs Advisory Services.
Nightstop is free to young people and host households receive expenses. If suitable, a young person is able to stay 1 - 5 nights in a Nightstop household while receiving further advice from their housing advice worker who will discuss their options with them and put their case forward to the New Forest District Council Housing Panel.
Nightstop is not a permanent solution to youth homelessness, but it gives a young person a breathing space to consider their situation.
The Nightstop team of hosts, drivers and support volunteers welcomes enquiries from new volunteers who will be part of a well-respected and friendly team who receive free CRB checks, free training and expenses. Above all, they gain great job satisfaction in helping local young people.
