Residents of Hythe are being given the opportunity to find out about volunteering opportunities.
On Wednesday 3 April and Wednesday 8 May the Volunteer Centre at Community First New Forest are running drop-in sessions at Hythe library. Viv Parsons, a volunteer herself, will be telling people how they can become involved in volunteering. Viv will be at Hythe library from 10am-1pm to explain what volunteering posts are available in Hythe, and throughout the New Forest, and to answer any questions.
Hazel Dyson, the Volunteer Centre Co-ordinator, said that as well as being a great way to get involved in the community, the benefits of volunteering include: ‘Meeting new people, developing an interest in new things, learning new skills and increasing knowledge. Volunteering even helps people to develop their CV and can in some cases lead to paid employment.’
Community First New Forest’s Volunteer Centre is hoping to reach as many people as possible throughout the area. Viv says, ‘We want anyone who is interested in volunteering to come along. People can have an informal chat and there is no obligation if they don’t want to take things further. ‘There’s nothing to lose but if you’re looking for a challenging, rewarding and fulfilling experience then volunteering may well be for you.’
There are numerous volunteering opportunities on offer in the New Forest from working with children or animals to driving a minibus. Whatever your interests and however much time you have available, in Hazel’s experience people can find something to suit them. She concludes, ‘Whether you want to improve your CV with new skills, meet new people or just feel good about yourself then the Volunteer Centre can link you up with a volunteering opportunity that could change your life for the better.’
