More Than a Flying Visit

RAF veterans from the New Milton branch of RAFA recently enjoyed a nostalgic day trip to the Royal Air Force Museum at Hendon, using minibus transport provided by Community First New Forest.

The highlight of their visit was to get within touching distance of a huge, black, camouflaged Lancaster bomber that had survived 137 missions over enemy territory.

Gus Nabney, secretary for New Milton RAFA said, ‘There is so much to interest all ages, and for our group it brought back so many memories. Hendon must be one of the greatest aviation museums in the world, and best of all, it’s free. Many thanks as well to Jim and John who drove for us today and helped make this a thoroughly enjoyable day out.’

Graham Hartless, transport manager at CFNF said ‘It’s great that we were able to help Gus and his RAF comrades to make this visit to Hendon such a success, we hope we can do the same again next year.’
