Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Information day

This annual event is run especially for parents/carers in the New Forest who look after children on the autistic spectrum.

Organised by Community First New Forest, this year’s ASD Information Day took place on Monday 23 November. The event was open to parents, carers and professionals from across the New Forest and particularly welcomed parents with newly diagnosed children.

Guest speakers explored issues such as Sensory Integration and Anger Management and Regulating Your Emotions. There was an opportunity to chat to other organisations including Autism Hampshire and Parent Voice.

According to the Group’s Facilitator, Carol Malky, “Parents often feel very isolated and are desperate to talk to others who will understand their situation. It’s hard when you realise that your child is different. No-one really understands except for parents who also deal with daily issues, like extreme tantrums, sleeping problems, meltdowns, food and behavioural issues. Especially when your child has just been diagnosed, you need time to take in that news and with support it’s easier to cope”.
