What we do
We support older people, people with disabilities or those on low incomes to repair, improve or adapt their homes. Our main aim is to support people with continued independence in their homes.
We provide the service through two Home Improvement Agencies (HIA), New Forest HIA and Test Valley HIA, in alliance with In Touch (Family Mosaic).
New Forest HIA covers the whole of the New Forest District, and Test Valley HIA covers the whole of the Borough of Test Valley.
How we help you
Our staff work in partnership with clients, occupational therapists, local council officers and others, and offer a professional, confidential, and supportive service. The agencies help to support people by:
- Identifying and organising work to people’s homes
- Providing support with applications to local councils for grants
- Exploring other options to finance work such as loans, private funding, applications to charitable trusts and benevolent organisations
- Linking people to practical services and other organizations for example:
Gardeners
Pension Service
Decorators
Occupational Therapists
Electricians
HCC Adult Services
Builders
Fire Service
Plumbers
Warm Front (Government Grant Scheme)
What does it cost?
There is no charge for the support element of the HIA. If technical support is provided, this is charged at 10% of the overall grant; if you are entitled to Disabled Facilities Grant the cost will be included within that.
If you wish to utilise the HIA technical services for private adaptations, the cost is 10% of the overall cost of the adaptation. This service includes feasibility, drawings, obtaining planning permission, project management, tender and overseeing works to completion.
